I recently had the pleasure of joining one of my favorite friends (and client) Bella Thorne on a trip to South Africa to film her up-and-coming movie Blended. Though it was winter in South Africa upon our arrival, it was still quite warm. While we were there, one of the hairstyles Bella wore most was a fishtail braid. The photo below was taken just before Bella and I enjoyed our first African Safari
The great thing about this hairstyle is that it is low-maintenance and requires no product. If you follow these simple steps you will be able to recreate this look at home…
STEP 1: Brush you hair thoroughly. When braiding your hair in any fashion you want no tangles.
STEP 2: Swoop your hair over your shoulder and separate it into two equal sections. We will call one Section #1, and the other Section #2. The section closest to your ear is Section #1.
STEP 3: Next, at the base of the braid take a skinny strand of hair from the outside of Section #1 and cross it over the top, then merge the skinny strand into Section #2.
STEP 4: Repeat that same motion on the opposite side. Take a strand of hair from the outside of Section #2 and cross it over the top, then merge the skinny strand into Section #1.
STEP 5: Repeat Step 3, then Step 4 all the way down until you reach the bottom. You will notice this type of braid creates an “X” pattern.
STEP 6: Tie the braid off with a clear hair tie or cute ribbon. You may also bobby pin in some daisies like Bella and I did for Coachella.
There you have it! A simple summer style that not only looks cool, it will keep you cool. Now you can recreate one of Bella’s favorite looks at home. The best part is that no damage is done to your hair, because no heat or product is needed!

In this photo above you may notice Bella is wearing extremely minimal makeup, yet she still looks as flawless as ever. Each morning we spent little time in the makeup chair. To achieve this look, you only need four products:
SKIN: For Bella’s skin I used NARS “Pure Radiant Tinted Moisturizer SPF30/PA+++” which is infused with naturally derived ingredients that instantly hydrate and even skin tone. This product leaves your skin looking flawless and dewy. I used a moist Beauty Blender to apply.
BRONZE GLOW: Bella loves a good contour. You will notice her skin looks slightly sun-kissed. To achieve this, I used the Buxom Bronzer in “Tahiti.” I am obsessed with this bronzer. Not only does it give your skin that perfect “just back from vacation” glow, it smells like toasted coconut.
MASCARA: For B’s lashes we simply threw on a few coats of Dior “Iconic Waterproof Mascara.” The great thing about this mascara is that it not only defines and curls your lashes, it stays in place. There is nothing worse than smudged mascara under your pretty eyes. With this mascara you won’t have that problem.
LIPS: Bella’s favorite lip product is Revlon’s“Just Bitten Kissable Balm Stain.” She won’t leave home without it. This product is great to add just a tint of color to your lips with subtle shine, and the best part is that it is long wearing, so no need to reapply.
